Octanis Racks

Racks are compact labs on wheels. It all began when we had to move out of Hackuarium last year and had to pack up all the stuff we had accumulated over the years on our two benches. It was clear to everyone that the next version of our tool- and workspace had to be more organised, easier to use and mobile. The rack is the first prototype solution to this problem. It allows to have 2-4 foldout tables and at least 6 computer-controlled compartments, individually fitted with warm white lighting. Access to the compartments (where the tools are connected to 230V) is controlled by a central touch interface on the rack via an RFID card reader.

Everyone must also pay attention to keep the rack in its “default” state at all times, leaving the rack behind as he or she found it. Octanis members and patrons have priority usage of the rack, as it is funded and/or manufactured by them. There will be enough storage on top of the rack to accomodate project boxes, etc.. Availability of the rack is ensured through a simple booking system. There will be two racks to start, with one being at EPFL and one at Hackuarium.
